UK and USA: Financial Times and McKinsey Announce a Business Book of the Year Shortlist

According to Publishing Perspectives “today’s (September 23) announcement of the Business Book of the Year Award shortlist from the Financial Times and McKinsey & Company marks the 16th year for this program, which honors international publication in the global business community.

Carrying a cash award of £30,000 (US$38,199) for its winner, each of the runners-up receives £10,000 (US$12,733), making the total purse of the program for authors worth £80,000 (US$101,864)…”


60 Open-Access University-Press Monographs Published through TOME Initiative

According to ARL News “Sixty scholarly books in the humanities and social sciences have been made freely available to researchers, students, and the general public under the TOME initiative.

The Association of American Universities (AAU), Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and Association of University Presses (AUPresses) launched TOME (Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem) in 2018 as a five-year pilot project to change the landscape of scholarly book publishing. Under the initiative, 21 colleges and universities have committed to providing grants of $15,000 per monograph, and 66 university presses have agreed to produce digital open-access editions of the books, license them under Creative Commons licenses, and deposit the files in open repositories…”

Clarivate Report Shares Buzzworthy New Research Fronts

According to Information Today “Clarivate published a global research report, Identifying Research Fronts in the Web of Science: From Metrics to Meaning,” which features analysis from Clarivate’s Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). ISI used “clusters of citations from recently published papers to show the hot and emerging scientific topics that are currently attracting exceptional attention.” The report makes “use of the new and complementary metrics in Research Front data derived from the Web of Science to inform and improve research evaluation and highlight topics with economic and societal impact…”
