As we have settled in to working from home, those of us with pets have gotten to know them a lot better. Our new Paws Encouraged Profiles are a chance to share with you a little bit more about our new office-mates. If you are interested in sharing your pet, Paws Encouraged! Contact [email protected] to set up a pet profile (paws aren’t even required, they could have hooves, talons, or even no feet at all)!
By: Zair Tiny Dog Fleming (and Rachel Fleming), Important Dog Business Technician (and Scholarly Communications Librarian), University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
BORN AND LIVED: Zair was born in Boone, North Carolina and adopted from the Watauga County Humane Society at about seven months old. Since then, along with best buddy Mister Isaac Cat, Zair has moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Friend Rachel works as Scholarly Communications Librarian at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, assisting faculty with affordable course materials, campus publishing, and all other things scholarly communications.
WORK FROM HOME HIGHLIGHTS: Zair likes taking naps in her comfy chair in the home office, but loves to sit in Rachel’s lap during Zoom meetings. Zair is sure to be very quiet and attentive, though, and doesn’t disturb productivity.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT LIBRARIES: It’s very important to be quiet, very quiet. But sometimes there are snacks!
IN MY SPARE TIME: Zair mostly runs around as fast as she can (it’s pretty fast), but also enjoys laying in the sun, and sometimes trying to figure out who was in the yard. Was it a rabbit? A chipmunk? A CAT SHE DON’T KNOW?
FAMILY: In addition to Rachel, Zair lives with Cat Friend Mister Isaac Cat, who likes sleeping even more than she does.
MENTORS/ANIMALS WHO INSPIRE ME: Braver Mountain dogsled team are dogs who are very famous and run very far. Running is fun, and dog friends are fun, but Zair doesn’t know about the cold (or the distance!).
THE CHANGE I HOPE TO MAKE: Zair hopes to remind everyone that they are good, too! You can do whatever you want, as long as you are a good dog, is her rule to live by. And remember to get enough sleep!
WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO: The best day for Zair is the day the peanut butter is out, and she gets to lick out the bottle.
PLANS FOR WHEN WORK FROM HOME ENDS: Zair misses the dog park where you can run with your friends and meet many new people who will pet you and tell you what a good dog you are.
