Charleston, SC – October 5, 2018 – The Charleston Conference is happy to announce that four finalists have been selected for the 2018 Charleston Fast Pitch Competition. We would like to congratulate Molly Rainard, Auraria Library, Max King, Illinois Institute of Technology, Travis Rich, The MIT Press, and Michael Young, University of Connecticut for being selected to present their innovative ideas to the Charleston audience and compete for a chance at two $2,500 prizes, sponsored by the Goodall Family Foundation.
“With so many recent developments in information technology, the opportunities for innovation in information management across academic libraries are endless,” says Steve Goodall, Founder and President of the Goodall Family Foundation. “The Goodall Family Foundation is honored to be part of the Charleston Fast Pitch Competition. We believe that showcasing outstanding examples of innovation within academic libraries will be both educational and inspiring,” Steve continued.
To encourage international participation, there is also a third award of an international travel stipend to attend the 2018 Conference and present a winning idea to the audience. This award is sponsored by Business Expert Press and Momentum Press. Congratulations to Dr. Sacha Noukhovitch, Executive Director/Editor-in-Chief, STEM Fellowship for winning the international travel award.
“When Business Expert Press and Momentum Press were asked to sponsor a travel award to an international participant in The Charleston Fast Pitch competition, we immediately said yes,” said Sung Tinnie, COO. “Contributing financially means supporting people from other countries who share progressive ideas in education, new critical resources for our libraries, and solutions to revitalizing academic foundations,” Tinnie added.
Fast Pitch encourages proposals for ideas on improving or transforming the work environment at a library, or any information-related enterprise or organization in educational technology. Finalists will appear at a Neapolitan session on Thursday, November 8, at 9:30 am in Grand Ballroom 1 of the Gaillard Center to present their “pitches.” Two votes will be taken, one from attendees and one from a panel of judges, to determine the winners.
