Here is a post from a local Omaha paper that features of all things, a academic journal that chips away at stereotypes by taking closer look at Midwestern culture.
Started three years ago, the Middle West Review prides itself in “taking a closer look at the culture of the Midwest and what distinguishes the region from the rest of the country” and “publishes historical research, sociological and cultural studies — even poetry and prose — to advance knowledge and understanding of the Midwest.”
According the the review’s founding editor Paul Mokrzycki Renfro, “unlike the South, the West and the Northeast, the Midwest is a chronically understudied area.” Obviously, he and his publication are doing the best they can to remedy the situation.
