ATG Quirkies: No More Feather Dusters?

by | May 1, 2017 | 0 comments

Yes it’s true. The feather duster has been replaced – at least at the Boston Public Library.  The staff at that venerable institution use what they describe as a “mini car wash for books,” a machine that can clean around 12 books per minute. The Depulvera, as its called, is used on closed stack books “after they’re requested or digitized.”

Libraries interested in this cutting edge technology will be relieved to know that the Depulvera isn’t the only game in town; it has competitors. “But it is the only book-dusting machine being touted by a frightening ad and a lofty battle song.”
