Here’s a fun post from Bryan Kozlowski on the Literary Hub website.  Using his knowledge of hidden Victorian slang, Mr Kozlowski deciphers Charles Dickens’ remarkable ability to make the names of his characters “fit so well, like a tight literary glove, onto each character’s unique personality.”  Ten of Dickens’ best known characters from Mr. Bumble to Miss Havisham to Oliver Twist are interpreted, revealing “the meaning behind the monikers.”
