Megan Bell from the Underground Books website talks about her action packed week at Rare Book School in this fascinating post.
Ms. Bell matter-of-factly describes the Rare Book School (RBS) as “an institute for the study of books located at the University of Virginia” with a curriculum consisting of “over 60 courses spanning the fields of bookbinding, collection management, bibliography, history, illustration and printing processes, manuscripts, typography and book design, and references and resources.”
But it’s really much more than that and during her week, Ms. Bell took full advantage! She says that much of her “RBS experience … was like a sleepover camp, full of skits, songs, and inside jokes, which share equal space in my notes with terms, dates, and figures.” Add to that the opportunity of having “dinner, drinks, and roaming about grounds with new friends” and a week at RBS sounds like some “serious fun.”
