It was only a matter of time. According to this post in the Guardian someone has decided to bottle the scent of old books “and sell it as an exotic fragrance.” It’s called “Paperback by Demeter, and it is “meant to evoke a trip to your favourite library or used bookstore.” The new scent advertises itself as “sweet and lovely, with just a touch of the mustiness of aged paper.” Sounds enticing!
But on a more serious note, the article goes on to describe the “remarkably complex” scent of aged paper and its chemical relationship to the molecule vanillin, which may explain its olfactory attraction.
