Henderson Library’s mission is to support the University by providing access to information, collections, and services designed to meet the scholarly needs of the University. In addition, the Library promotes independent lifelong learning, employs a learner-centered service ethic, and ensures a comfortable and secure study environment. The Interlibrary Loan Librarian plays a leading role in improving services and demonstrating the Library’s value to the academic community.

Position Description.
Reporting to the Head of the Access Services Department, the Interlibrary Loan Librarian will manage Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery at the Zach S. Henderson Library. The unit consists of two full-time staff members, one part-time staff member, and two student employees. Interlibrary Loan typically lends approximately 7,500 requests per year and borrows approximately 9,000 per year using ILLiad software. In fiscal year 2015, the document delivery program supplied 358 items to faculty from the Henderson Library collections and 94 to distance learning students. The Interlibrary Loan Librarian assists in material purchasing decisions by providing statistical reports and other borrowing data to the Collection and Resources Department. The successful candidate will positively represent the University in professional, community, and state organizations by actively participating in professional development and continuing education; serving on Library and campus committees and actively participating in professional activities; and performing other duties as assigned. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track fac
ulty appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank, with rank and salary commensurate with experience. Minimum is $45,000 per year.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited master’s degree
  • Evidence of effective organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Supervisory experience
  • Extensive interlibrary loan experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time experience in librarianship is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated evidence of flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced diverse team environment
  • Experience in an academic interlibrary loan setting
  • Experience with ILLiad
  • At least one year of experience managing an Interlibrary Loan unit

Screening of applications begins September 21, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is January 1, 2016. A complete application consists of a letter addressing the qualifications cited above; an original essay of two or three paragraphs on the role of interlibrary loan and document delivery in today’s academic library; a curriculum vitae; and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least three professional references, one of whom must be a current or former supervisor.
