Through the KeyholeAccording to historian Dr. Susan Law the top candidate for the handsome, brooding, heartthrob of Pride and Prejudice is “the first Earl of Morley, John Parker, who was married to a friend of Austen and said to be “intense”.”

Sure to spark controversy among Jane Austen aficionados, Dr. Law makes the claim in her new book Through the Keyhole: Sex, Scandal and the Secret Life of the Country House.  She came to her conclusion after spending “five years piecing together letters, diaries and newspapers.”
