Mary Ann Mavrinac is the new Library Dean at the River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester

Mavrinac recently moved to Rochester after a decade at UTM, during which she oversaw the move of the library from a cramped and outdated space in the South building to the new state-of-the-art Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre…”

Nicole Saylor Appointed Head of AFC Archive

“The Library of Congress has appointed Nicole Saylor as Head of the American Folklife Center Archive. Saylor will assume her duties next month. She replaces Michael Taft, who retired in early 2012.

In this position, Saylor will lead a long-established and highly regarded archive at the Library of Congress. Founded in 1928, the American Folklife Center Archive is the premier repository and research center for ethnographic documentation of worldwide cultural traditions. Its multimedia holdings consist of more than 3 million photographs, manuscripts, audio recordings and moving images, ranging from the earliest field documentation – which was collected in the 1890s on wax cylinders – to recordings utilizing present-day digital technology…”

Robert Lescher Has Died

“Literary agent Robert Lescher has passed away. He was 83-years-old.  Lescher established his career in the publishing industry as an editor. He climbed his way up and obtained the title of editor-in-chief at Henry Holt & Company. During his tenure at Holt, he edited the works of legendary poet Robert Frost, short story writer Wolcott Gibbs and memoirist Alice B. Toklas…”
