 Penguin settles with Department of Justice in ebook pricing case

Laura Owens report in paidContent that “Penguin, which is merging with Random House, has settled with the Department of Justice in the ebook pricing lawsuit, the DOJ announced late Tuesday afternoon. The DOJ sued Apple, Penguin and four other publishers in April for conspiring to set ebook prices. Penguin had planned to fight the case in court, along with Apple and Macmillan, but the company’s pending merger with Random House compelled it to get the litigation out of the way…”

3M Cloud Library and Polaris Library Systems Announce Industry’s First Fully Integrated eBook Catalog

According to this recent press release “browsing and checking out eBooks is about to get a lot easier for patrons of libraries using the Polaris Integrated Library System and the 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service. 3M Library Systems and Polaris Library Systems announce that the integration of these two services is now live at Baltimore County Public Library…”

EBSCO Publishing and INTELECOM Intelligent Telecommunications Agreement Brings Academic Video Collections to EBSCOhost

Nature notes Nordic mentors

Staffan Normark, Anders Hagfeldt and Jens Nielsen were today announced as the winners of the 2012 Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science (Nordic countries). The three scientists, all based in Sweden, were honored today for their outstanding efforts to mentor young researchers, during a seminar at the Nobel Forum, Karolinska Institutet, in Stockholm, Sweden…
