Like wow! The hard-charging George Machovec has been appointed permanent executive director of the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries!! George has been the acting position and had obviously proved himself. Congratulations, George! Hip Hip Hooray!
More true Rumors, David Goble, once the SC State Librarian is the new Director of Libraries at the Citadel. David is a Citadel graduate and we are happy to have him back!
Have y’all been paying attention to the Charleston Conference/ATG Penthouse Interviews? An enterprising group of colleagues (Eleanor Cook, Tom Gilson, Jack Montgomery, Albert Joye, Jared Seay, etc.) did interviews with conference attendees and speakers. Many of the interviews are now loaded up on the Conference Video Page. We even got a little PR from Cliff Lynch’s organization, The Coalition for Networked Information. (Cliff and Lee Dirks were two of the interviewees.) This joint interview with CNI’s Clifford Lynch and Lee Dirks of Microsoft Research is part of the Against the Grain series of video interviews, “Views from the Penthouse Suite,” and was recorded at the November 2011 Annual Charleston Conference. Topics covered include the librarian’s role in data management, emerging tools in scholarly communication, backing up digital collections in the Cloud, and much more. This video has been added to the Clifford Lynch playlist on YouTube, available from CNI’s channel, or access the playlist directly on the Conference’s channel, and individual clips are on the Conference website.
Yes, the Rumor is true, after a long and enjoyable career the dapper Jonathan Waring is tearing himself away from all of us and repairing into retirement! I remember Jonathan when he was back at Collett’s (remember them?). Lately, I know that Jonathan has particularly enjoyed working with the fantabulous Bob Nardini at Coutts and will miss him and many other colleagues as well as us lovely customers he’s had the pleasure of meeting over the years. Jonathan says he especially enjoyed trips to the Charleston Conference! Keep in touch, Jonathan, and here’s his email in just in case! email@example.com
Got a lovely email from Carole Bell (Temple) who said she loves Against the Grain even though she didn’t always make it to the Charleston Conference. Carole, who retired on April 30, wants to keep up with all of us after her awesome 35-year career in academic libraries (Temple, also Penn, Brown, Northwestern and Univ. of MD). Carole says she is really going to miss all of us and would love to stay in touch. Here’s her email which remains the same at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And the impressive Jonathan Harwell, regular contributor to the ATG NewsChannel website’s “Hot Topic” column, has made a recent job transition. He left Georgia Southern University as Coordinator of Content Management on April 3 and begin at Rollins College as Head of Collections & Systems on May 1. Congrats on the new job, Jonathan!
That’s it for this edition but watch for Rumors in the June print issue of ATG to be mailed before ALA! Hugs to all, Katina
