Position Summary

The librarian’s role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service. Reference services include developing or acquiring instructional materials and providing assistance to the community in the use of research and technology.

Combining the best resources of a public library and a community college library, the Harris County Public Library, Lone Star College-CyFair branch provides community members and students with a unique array of services. Located in a learning commons at the heart of a modern and expanding campus, the library includes a café and approximately 200 public workstations.

Job Functions

Provides reader’s advisory and reference service using library catalog, the Internet and databases.

Plans, organizes, and delivers research instruction in ways that maximize student learning, information literacy and technology

Assists customers with library computers and associated software, such as the library catalog, Internet browsers, databases and Microsoft Office applications.

Maintains professional standards of competence within the field of information services and technology through professional development activities.

Actively participates in department, college, Lone Star College System, and Harris County Public Library meetings and/or committees.

Interprets and implements library policies and procedures for library users and staff.

Establishes annual objectives, including personal and professional growth plans, in consultation with the library director.

Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from ALA Accredited Institution.

At least 2 years of full-time professional librarian experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Excellent customer service skills

Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience of information technologies

Ability to speak or read a foreign language

Hiring Range

Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications.

Work Schedule

Work hours vary. Some evening and weekend rotation shifts are required.
