Lerner Publishing Group today announced the launch of Lerner Digital™, its digital content brand for the school and library markets. Lerner Interactive Books™—the first new product available from Lerner Digital—will be unveiled at the American Library Association (ALA) 2010 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. this week. Developed for struggling readers, Lerner Interactive Books bring a highly engaging, online reading alternative to K–5 students helping them improve key literacy skills while gaining core curriculum content knowledge.
Lerner Interactive Books give students control of the reading experience and their personal success. Key features uniquely assist below-grade-level readers including:
- Dual audio speeds allow students to start at a pace commensurate with their reading ability and progress to the faster pace as they gain confidence;
- Single-word repeat allows students to stop the audio and select any word to hear it repeated and pronounced, helping students connect the spoken and written word;
- The sound toggle allows students to practice reading independently or follow along as each word is highlighted on the screen while being narrated, reinforcing fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension;
- An interactive glossary helps readers increase vocabulary by defining key content-area words.
Other features include embedded interactive whiteboard tools for direct instruction, extension activities to reinforce content knowledge, a multiple-choice quiz to check for comprehension, and a detailed implementation guide with lesson ideas for easy, effective classroom and library implementation. The first 33 Lerner Interactive Books will be available this fall, including titles from best-selling author Brian P. Cleary’s Words are CATegorical® and Sounds Like Reading® series and three subsets of the Lightning Bolt Books™ second-grade nonfiction brand. Additional titles will be released in Spring 2011 and each season thereafter simultaneous with Lerner’s book publishing program.
The launch of the Lerner Interactive Book program is one component of Lerner Publishing Group’s increased strategic focus on digital products. With the soon-to-be-announced launch of a new website, the addition of value-added online resources to supplement its nonfiction series, the expansion and direct access to 1000s of eBooks, alongside the introduction of Lerner Interactive Books, Lerner Publishing Group is committed to bringing exceptional content to readers whenever and wherever they wish to read it—whether via a traditional book or via the web at school, in the library, or at home.
