This year, Allen Press, Inc., is celebrating its 75th anniversary as a successful printer and publishing services provider, specializing in scholarly journals and special-interest magazines. The company has a variety of activities planned throughout the year to honor this milestone and will publish a commemorative book in the spring detailing its history.
Founded by Harold Allen as a two-man operation in 1935, Allen Press now occupies a 140,000 square foot building and employs more than 300 people. The company remains family-owned and is among the top 15 employers in Lawrence.
The first scientific journal the company produced was printed in 1952; The Wilson Bulletin, an ornithological journal published by The Wilson Ornithological Society, is still printed at Allen Press today. The company now produces 450 scholarly journals and special-interest magazines for 350 organizations worldwide. Allen Press offers publishers a complete author-to-reader solution that includes printing, online journal hosting, composition, editorial services, manuscript tracking and peer review, distribution, and administrative and publishing services.

Leah was appointed Executive Director of the Charleston Conference in 2017, and has served in various roles with the Charleston Information Group, LLC, since 2004. Prior to working for the conference, she was Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions for the College of Charleston for four years. She lives in a small town near Columbia, SC, with her husband and two kids where they raise a menagerie of farm animals.
