New content added
Paratext is pleased to announce the addition of Blackwell Reference Online (BRO) to Reference Universe. Blackwell Reference Online brings together Wiley-Blackwell’s critically acclaimed Blackwell Companions and Handbooks, as well as major encyclopedias, including the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology and the International Encyclopedia of Communication.
BRO spotlights the more than 450 additional specialized reference titles–more than 500,000 new citations–added to the Reference Universe service since September.
In addition to Blackwell Reference Online, new titles from Gale’s Virtual Reference Library, IGI, Berkshire, and Cambridge University Press are also online. View a complete list of the 750+ publishers represented in Reference Universe here.

Visual route to reference materials
Give users an intuitive pathway into your reference collection with the new Reference Universe Tag Cloud Widget (in beta), and view a sample of searches occurring at your institution.
Our new widget is a portable API from Paratext created to introduce users to our search capabilities via the [now] familiar context of a usage-based tag cloud. Click-through to access title-level holdings and full-text links from your institution’s usage results–without any specialized training or subject expertise.
Coming soon–Reference Universe for Ebooks
Visit us at ALA Midwinter at Booth #1641 to try out the beta version of Reference Universe for Ebooks. This iteration of Reference Universe leverages the same carefully-collected metadata as the original to search across reference ebooks only.
Using your Open URL resolver, our ebooks discovery aid will search across silo-ed sites to point your patrons to available reference full-text. A must for remote-access users!
(Collection development librarians can also use the platform’s non-local holdings view to search for newly published e-reference titles that your institution does not own.)
