I've been in Greenville for 3 weeks and for 2 of those 3 weeks, my home computer has not been working right. $225 later, it is now working.
The first $150 was to the local Intrex store where I took it last weekend. It had a virus (probably) but the situation was complicated by the fact that the anti-virus software (Norton 360) was causing part of the problem. Fortunately the folks at Intrex do not charge by the hour - if they had, I would have paid a lot more. So I am not unhappy about what they did. They got it working again, so that is good.
The next $75 was for the house call my wonderful neighbor Michael Jones performed in order to get the wireless router set up. I probably would have spent less and it would have taken less time if I had had him do all of the work but I did not find him until after I took my computer to the store. My husband is now happily surfing the Internet like before and I can start catching up on all kinds of stuff.
The lesson learned here is to keep asking around - and boy howdy do I miss those house calls from the tech guys at ASU!
All this has put me quite behind on ACQNET and AcqWeb projects and has made it next to impossible to do anything except work-related things. Hopefully I will get back to the extracurricular and personal email soon!
