 Print Versus Retention
Rosann Bazirjian — This issue of ATG will showcase five thoughtful and creative papers on the topic of whether or not we should discard print titles in favor of electronic titles.
1
 Collaborative Print Retention Pilot Projects
Thomas A. Peters — Why has print retention become one of the burning issues of our time? It reveals our current cultural schizophrenia. On the one hand, electronic publishing has caused some educated people to denounce digital content and reaffirm their love of print. On the other hand, certain types of printed publications, such as reference books and scholarly journals, have become problems for academic libraries.
18
No One Uses Them So Why Should We Keep Them
John McDonald — Scenarios for Print Issue Retention : This piece outlines the considerations that each library should take into account when debating retention of print journal issues.
22
 The Hybrid Environment:
Mark Rowse — Electronic-only Versus Print Retention: As we all know, libraries are purchasing increasing amounts of electronic resources which puts ongoing pressure on acquisition budgets. What is the feasibility of sustaining duplicate print and electronic collections?
24
The Future of the Hardcopy Journal
Don Jaeger — This is not the first time in the history of publishing that the printed journal has been challenged.
30
 Libraries in Transition:
Robert Alan and Nan Butkovich — Impact of Print and Electronic Journal Access The reality, therefore, is that many libraries are in a transitional period, having to allocate resources to manage both print and electronic journal collections. Penn State is one such library.
32
Op Ed — Opinions and Editorials
Scott Plutchak — Vanishing Act: We are at a perilous moment in history. The technology, and our responses to it, are moving more rapidly than careful thought would allow.
