On November 14, 1988, the Francis Marion Hotel was sold at auction, apparently to the bank which held its mortgage. It is still in operation, but how long is "problematic", as the administrators say, so another hotel was selected for the 1989 Charleston Conference. Sorry about that, to all you devotees. I take full credit, to all of you who haven't really liked it there in years past.
