According to infoDOCKET Librarian of Congress “Carla Hayden opened this year’s CILIP Conference with a keynote speech that was her call to action for librarians to put accessibility at the heart of everything they do.

In her keynote to a packed auditorium at CILIP Conference in Manchester she talked about her own career and how her background as a public librarian will help shape the future of Library of Congress.

Speaking to all the information professionals at the conference, she reminded them that they are part one of the most trusted professions in the world. The current climate of ‘alternative facts’ and ‘fake news’ meant that trust is even more valuable now and libraries and library staff need to embrace their role.

‘People are hungry for access to authoratitive sources. Librarians are the original search engines and we may not know what it is, but we know how to find it.

KnowledgeSpeak reports that “Academic publisher Taylor & Francis Group has announced the appointment of Annie Callanan as its new CEO. Annie is a highly experienced leader of technology and information services businesses with a track record of operational improvement and innovation.

She has worked extensively in the knowledge and information sector. She joins Taylor & Francis from Quantros, where she has been serving as CEO. Previous roles include President and CEO of Bowker, a global information services company providing search, data, discovery and electronic book ordering services; and Chief Operating Officer of ProQuest, a global leader in content, information resources and technologies for libraries and researchers. She has also held positions on the boards of directors of the Association of American Publishers and the International ISBN Agency.

Annie takes over from Roger Horton, who has retired after leading Taylor & Francis for 14 years.

According to Library Technology Guides “Backstage Library Works announced the promotion of Casey Cheney to Vice President of Automation Services. Casey has worked with Backstage for 14 years and has fulfilled many roles, including assistant project manager and project manager in retrospective conversion, reclassification, and cataloging. In April 2016, she transitioned to project manager for authority control processing.
