Cengage Learning has announced the appointment of two industry leaders to head the company’s strategic communications and marketing activities. Sandi Kirshner has taken on the newly created role of Chief Communications Officer, while Sharon Loeb will serve as Chief Marketing Officer. The announcement was made by Cengage Learning CEO Michael Hansen.

Ingram Content Group has named Pep Carrera as Chief Operating Officer of VitalSource Technologies Inc., Ingram’s leading educational platform company. Carrera will transition into this role from his current position as Chief Information Officer at Ingram. Kent Freeman, currently VitalSource’s COO, will move into a newly created strategic position at Ingram Content Group as Chief Strategy and Development Officer…

He joined Ingram Content Group as CIO in 2012, leading Ingram’s technology and digital platforms that serve publishers, libraries, booksellers and educators worldwide. He will relocate to Raleigh, NC where he will lead the teams based in VitalSource’s offices in Raleigh, Boston and the United Kingdom

Kent Freeman will serve Ingram Content Group in a newly created role as Chief Strategy and Development Officer, where he will be supporting Ingram’s continued transformation and leading the delivery, management and incubation of Ingram’s future successful strategic partnerships and products. Kent has been with Ingram Content Group for 33 years in a variety of leadership roles and has led VitalSource since 2009…”

“Elections for the CHORUS / CHOR, Inc. Board of Directors were held at the organization’s Annual Members Meeting on February 3, 2016, in Washington, D.C., further to the expiration of the Interim Board that has served CHORUS during its initial formation, just over 2 years after incorporation…

New to the CHORUS Board of Directors are John Sack (HighWire Press) and Matthew Salter (American Physical Society). “Now that CHORUS has announced agreements with 5 funding agencies, it’s time to move to annual election of the Board of Directors by our publisher and affiliate members.  We are very encouraged by the active participation of our members in the election process, which helps to ensure that CHORUS is responsive and evolving to meet the needs of the scholarly community,” said Susan King, Executive Director, Rockefeller University Press and CHORUS Chair.    

Dr. King continued, “We are pleased to welcome John Sack and Matthew Salter to our Board.  As the Founding Director of HighWire Press, John Sack brings the unique outlook of a thought leader on technology and publishing futures, strategic analytics, discoverability, user research, and technology innovation. Currently the Publisher of APS, Matthew Salter’s perspective has been informed by his diverse experiences as a research chemist who moved into editorial leadership roles for several leading societies and companies in the UK, US, and Asia.  John and Matthew’s wide-ranging expertise will be invaluable as CHORUS addresses the evolving requirements of scholarly communications. Immediately following the Annual Members Meeting, the new Board convened its first meeting to elect the CHORUS Officers.  Susan King (Rockefeller University Press) will continue as CHORUS Chair and John Tagler (Association of American Publishers) as Secretary.  Scott Delman (Association for Computing Machinery) was elected as Treasurer. A member of the scholarly publishing community for two decades, Mr. Delman currently serves as ACM’s Director of Group Publishing & Digital Library Sales, leading ACM’s Digital Library publication platform and shaping ACM’s policies and editorial approach to Open Access…”

KnowledgeSpeak reports that “Allen Press, Inc. has announced that Martine Padilla has been appointed Vice President of Sales and will join the organisation in mid-February. Padilla brings over 30 years of print industry experience to the position in which she will lead sales strategy for printing, distribution, online content hosting and publishing management.

Most recently, Padilla served as Retail Production Manager with Sprint’s marketing division and held prior positions as Print Director at Callahan Creek, where she led its Los Angeles graphics and print purchasing team onsite at Toyota Motor Sales, and as Vice President at Mainline Printing in Topeka, where she helped build its Holographic division. She also served as Executive Director of the non-profit Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP)…”
