ATG Quirkies: The Eagles “Witchy Woman” Was About Zelda Fitzgerald

Zelda_Fitzgerald_portraitTalk about your literary allusions!  According to Wikipedia, Witchy Woman  the 1972 hit by the Eagles was primarily based on Zelda Fitzgerald.

According to some album liner notes, the Eagles’ Don Henley had Zelda Fitzgerald particularly in mind when writing the song.  Evidently he had been reading a biography of Zelda and knew her reputation as the “muse and sometimes genius behind her well-published author husband F. Scott FitzgeraldZelda was portrayed  “as wild, bewitching and mesmerizing and was the quintessential “Flapper“, … of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties.”

(Thanks, as always, to John Riley of Gabriel Books for providing ATG Quirkies!)
