infoDOCKET reports that “Kevin L. Smith, director of copyright and scholarly communication at Duke University, will join the University of Kansas in May as dean for KU Libraries.

Smith will succeed interim co-deans Kent Miller and Mary Roach, who assumed their roles following the departure of Dean Lorraine Haricombe. Haricombe was named vice provost and director of libraries at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014…

Smith earned a J.D. from Capital University Law School, a master’s degree in library science from Kent State University and a master of arts in religion from Yale University Divinity School. Prior to his work at Duke, Smith was the director of Library and Instructional Resources at Defiance College. Smith has also worked as an instructor, reference librarian and assistant librarian. He has an impressive list of published articles, keynote addresses and essays…”

infoDOCKET also notes that the  “Los Angeles County’s library system will be under new management starting next month after supervisors voted Tuesday to name a new county librarian.

Supervisors appointed Skye Patrick to serve as librarian for the sprawling county library system…

Patrick’s appointment is effective Feb. 1, according to county documents, and her salary is set at $225,000 a year. For almost three years Patrick has been director of the Broward County Libraries Division in Florida, “where she has received multiple state and national awards for leading information projects that exhibit excellence in communications,” according to county documents…”

According to Library Technology Guides “in a move that will add considerable experience and expertise to its marketing department, EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has hired Faye LaCasse as the Director of Product Marketing. She will oversee marketing efforts for several product lines including e-books, subscriptions and Flipster digital magazines.

LaCasse spent more than 10 years at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, where she was a two-time recipient of the Houghton Mifflin Strategic Achievement Award, before moving to Pearson North America. In 10 years at Pearson, she held several positions, including the most recent position of the Director of Marketing, US Learning Services, and earned the Integrated Marketing Services Applause Award in Innovation. LaCasse is a graduate of Stanford University and holds an MBA in Marketing from the Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College…”

According to KnowledgeSpeak The Publishers Association has appointed Stephen Lotinga as its new Chief Executive.

Lotinga is a communications specialist with experience in government, business and the public sector and replaces Richard Mollet, who leaves the Association to take up a role within the Relx Group. He joins The PA from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman but was, until May 2015, Director of Communications to the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg. Before that he spent a number of years working in public affairs within large agencies…”

KnowledgeSpeak also reports that “the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) has announced that Dr. Felicia Cosman, Medical Director of the Clinical Research Center at Helen Hayes Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons in New York, has been selected as its new Editor-in-Chief of Osteoporosis International after an extensive search. Dr. Cosman joins Dr. John Kanis, Co-Editor in Chief representing the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF).
