ATG Quirkies: ‘Bird’s Nest’ libraries popular in Chinese cities

Birdnest librariesChina Daily reports that inspired by similar grassroots efforts here in the USYan Defeng, a 36-year-old self-employed man, cycles around Zhengzhou in central China’s Henan province with a wooden bird house filled with books on the back of his bike eager to find a home for his fourth “Bird’s Nest” library. Yan Defeng is spreading his joy of reading by distributing the book-filled bird houses as part of the “Bird’s Nest” library program.

And he’s not the only one. Similar lending libraries have begun emerging in other Chinese cities such as Xiamen, Nanjing and Zhenjiang.
