The process of license negotiation has always been a tortuous one for both publishers and librarians. Librarians have begun to leverage their strength in numbers and to simplify the process of license negotiation through the use of consortial licenses that cover more than a single institution. The use of consortial licensing, the terms and conditions, and the ease in which they can be negotiated and implemented continue to evolve.

This webinar will explore some of the developments in consortial licensing and will look at new directions and ways to improve the processes.

…This two-part webinar series will explore the nascent world of electronic textbooks and how publishers, students, and librarians are dealing with these new products.

In Part 1, we will explore the notion of just what an electronic textbook is. Are e-textbooks an interactive “courseware” website, an application for mobile devices and tablets, or self-contained digital files? Or is there a place for all of these and if so, how do they fit together and combine with a course syllabus?

The Framework for Information Literacy and the Intersections of Scholarly Communication and Information Literacy white paper, plus continuing task force work within ACRL, demonstrates progress towards aligning scholarly communication education within undergraduate and graduate student information literacy outreach. This webcast will focus on how librarians can integrate copyright into the classroom with undergraduate and graduate students to raise awareness of not only ethically using others’ work, but also how to consider their rights and responsibilities as creators and copyright holders of their own work…
