College of Charleston Libraries seek an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented leader for the position of Coordinator of Interlibrary Loan and Reference Librarian in Addlestone Library. Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the Interlibrary Loan Office is part of the Reference Department and processes on average 16,000 requests per year. In addition to the coordinator, the office is staffed by two technical assistants, a part-time assistant, and several student employees. The Reference Department also offers a full range of services including access to hundreds of full text databases, assistance at the Information Desk, virtual reference services, personal research consultations by appointment, and a dynamic and growing library instruction program.
Leadership and Management Responsibilities 50%
The Interlibrary Loan Coordinator manages all of Addlestone Library’s interlibrary loan activity including lending and borrowing within the PASCALstate consortium through Millennium INNReach software as well as worldwide through OCLC’s Resource Sharing module. The coordinator supervises two technical assistants and assists in the supervision of several student employees. Responsibilities include hiring, training and development, organizing workflows, delegating responsibility, providing guidance and direction, and monitoring and evaluating performance.
The coordinator assesses effectiveness of the department’s services using statistical analysis of service data. Keeps current on trends related to current services and processes and recommends new practices including innovative uses of technology in both interlibrary loan and instruction.
Research and Teaching Responsibilities 40%
As tenure track instructional faculty, reference librarians are expected to actively participate in teaching bibliographic sessions, especially in the First Year Experience and in English 110, as well as the LIBR 105 one credit research course. Playing an integral role in library instruction including innovative instructional support through research guides, learning management software, and other online and mobile tools is also expected. Additionally, the reference librarians provide in person and virtual reference services to patrons at the Information Desk (approximately 4-5 hours per week which may include nights & weekends in rotation with other librarians) and provide in depth research consultations in the reference office upon request.
Library and College Affairs 10%
Serves as library liaison to academic departments. Undertakes research and/or professional development related to professional and scholarly interests. In consultation with appropriate faculty, selects new books and journals for the library’s collection. Serves on library, college and professional committees, elected and assigned.
Master of Library Science degree and experience in an academic library. Familiar with OCLC’s Resource Sharing Module and ILLIAD software. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with our diverse faculty and students.
Experience and demonstrated skill in providing innovative library services to undergraduate and graduate students. Record of outreach to faculty and academic program leaders on campus
