In today’s Scholarly Kitchen post, Kent Anderson announced that as he begins a one-year term as the President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), he is resigning “my position as Editor-in-Chief of the Scholarly Kitchen. I will hand the reins over to David Crotty, who will take the title of Executive Editor. I will continue to blog on occasion…
I am happy to turn the keys over to David, whose wisdom, editing style, and industry knowledge are incomparable. He will bring another wave of innovations to the Kitchen, I am sure. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for this important voice and brand…”
“Wolper Information Services congratulates Ozzie Meza of Allstate Insurance on his selection as the recipient of the 2013 B&F Impact Award sponsored by Wolper Information Services.
This award, as designed by Wolper, recognizes a Division member who creates value by aligning with the goals of his or her organization through the innovative and effective use of information. The award winner receives a $2,000 stipend to help cover expenses at the SLA Annual Conference and INFO-EXPO. This is the third year that Wolper has sponsored this award.
“We sponsor this award to recognize information professionals who are doing excellent and creative work in support of their organization, by unleashing the power of information,” said Susan Wolper, President and CEO of Wolper Information Services. “Ozzie Meza was an outstanding candidate, and we are delighted that we can support his continued professional growth.”

Meza employed competitive intelligence skills and resources to support executive recruitment at Allstate Insurance. This function proved to be so successful that Ozzie was asked to expand it beyond the executive level to support all teams recruiting talent into the company. He now has a team that includes four researchers under Ozzie’s leadership in what is Allstate’s first Human Resources-specific Information Center and has driven millions of dollars in savings from the reduced need to leverage external search firms. In the words of Allstate’s Director of Talent Acquisition, “These business outcomes were the direct result of Ozzie’s knowledge, expertise and leadership.”
Meza was honored during the SLA B&F Division Awards Ceremony at 8pm on June 8, 2013 at the SLA Annual Conference and INFO-EXPO in San Diego, CA.
