According to an OCLC news release “Skip Prichard, an experienced senior executive in the information services market, has been named the next OCLC President and CEO.

Mr. Prichard has led multi-national organizations that serve libraries across the full spectrum of library services and content needs. Most recently, he was President and CEO of Ingram Content Group Inc., which provides a broad range of physical and digital services to the book industry. Prior to his service at Ingram, he was President and CEO of ProQuest Information and Learning, a respected global publisher and information provider serving library, education, government and corporate markets with offices around the world.

Mr. Prichard will succeed Jay Jordan, who will retire June 30 after 15 years as OCLC President and CEO. Mr. Prichard will serve as OCLC President-elect, effective June 3, and will officially become President and CEO on July 1…”

According to Library Journal “…The 21st conference of the Innovative Users Group (IUG) was the first for CEO Kim Massana, who took over last August following the company’s March 2012 purchase by private equity firms Huntsman Gay Global Capital and JMI Equity and the departure of longtime executives such as Neil Block and Jerry Kline.

Without deprecating the company’s past, Massana sent a clear message that the culture of III is shifting toward greater accountability and client focus, and he also said the company is moving away from its black box reputation and embracing, as a corporate imperative, greater openness and collaboration…”

 People in the News  – May issue of College and Research Libraries News  

Ann-Christe Galloway reports on a number of appointments in her “People in the News column” in the May issue of College and Research Libraries News  including:

Martha Conway is now director of the Special Collections Library at the University of Michigan Library having served as interim director for 18 months.

Linda Marie Golian-Lui has joined Kennesaw State University (KSU) as associate dean and library director of the Horace W. Sturgis Library. Prior to her appointment at KSU, Golian-Lui served as university librarian at the University of Hawaii-Hilo (2002–12) and was librarian at Florida Gulf Coast University from 1997 to 2002. She serves on a number of ALA and ACRL committees, and her areas of expertise include educational leadership and mentoring. Golian-Lui was Florida Atlantic University’s Educational Leadership Outstanding Graduate Student in 1997 and 2005.

Kevin Mulroy has been appointed A. J. McFadden dean of the Claremont Colleges Library, beginning July 15. Mulroy comes to the Claremont Colleges from the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has served since 2008 as the associate university librarian for academic services. From 2001 to 2008, Mulroy served at the University of Southern California as associate executive director for research collections and services and as assistant dean for contracts and grants. Before that, Mulroy worked for eight years as director of research at the Autry National Center. He also held earlier positions at the Getty Research Institute and the UCLA Library…”

Ms. Galloway also noted the passing of a name that will be familiar to reference librarians of a certain age:

“Eugene Paul Sheehy, 90, head of the Butler Library Reference Department at Columbia University from 1967 to January 1987, has died. During his time as head of Butler Library reference, Sheehy continued the tradition of editing ALA’s Guide to Reference Books, an annotated listing of useful sources. He also continued the Columbia Libraries tradition of editing a twice-yearly column in College and Research Libraries, summarizing recently published reference works from 1963 to 1987. Sheehy was awarded ALA’s Isidor Gilbert Mudge Citation for distinguished services to reference work in 1981. He worked as a reference librarian at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. (1952–53), and joined the Butler Library reference department of Columbia University in 1953, becoming the head of the department in 1967…”
