Citing the the UCLA Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost InfoDOCKET reports the appointment of Virginia Steel as UCLA’s University Librarian, effective July 15, 2013. “A library director for more than 11 years with significant leadership experience within the University of California system and at Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions, Ms. Steel brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and perspective to this critical role. She currently serves as university librarian at UC Santa Cruz and previously served as director of libraries at Washington State University (2001-05), overseeing the libraries on the Pullman campus and coordinating library services across the four WSU campuses…”
Temple University President Neil Theobald has announced the appointment of Joseph P. Lucia to lead Temple’s library system as the university’s dean of university libraries.
Lucia, who has served as university librarian and director of Falvey Memorial Library at Villanova University since 2002, will assume his new position on July 1, 2013.
As dean of university libraries, Lucia will oversee all of Temple’s nine libraries — including those at Temple University Japan and Temple University Rome — as well as Temple University Press. Lucia has been charged by President Theobald with leading a major program of library development, including the construction of a new signature building at Temple’s Main Campus that will connect the university with the greater Philadelphia community…

Paul Peters was named the new President of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). He is one of OASPA’s founders and served as the Chair for its annual conferences for the past four years. He is also the Chief Strategy Officer for the Hindawi Publishing Corporation.
