…In this webcast, publishers and librarians will discuss current emerging models for scholarly communication and its future. Damon Zucca from Oxford University Press talks about the transformation of the long-standing print Oxford Handbooks series into a dynamic article delivery service, providing scholarly research reviews in advance of their print publication and offering born-digital content—blurring ebooks and serials into a new format. Vicki Parsons, Head of Collections at Georgia Gwinnett College Library, talks about her experiences developing a library collection for a born-digital institution in a twenty-first century world encompassing both print and online. Rolf Janke, from Sage Publications shares his experiences of transitioning print content into the digital space focusing on how the value of content must not get lost in translation moving into the various digital forms.

Can’t make it on the conference day? Register now and gain access to the archive for one year. - System Requirements:
You will need a computer for the presentations and Q&A. Audio is available through the computer (broadcast) and by telephone. We recommend you have a set-up for telephone audio as back-up even if you plan to use the broadcast audio as the voice over Internet isn’t 100% reliable.
Please check your system in advance to make sure it meets the Cisco WebEx requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure that your system is properly set up before each webinar begins…
As former Library Journal Editor-in-Chief Francine Fielkoff wrote in an editorial last year, “Libraries Should Be What Users Want—With a Little Help from Librarians.” Libraries everywhere are planning, strategizing, experimenting, and conversing with their users in order to realize how they may best serve as successful learning spaces in rapidly-changing technological, social and economic environments.
Creation is often seen as an important theme of future community spaces – supporting 3D printers and other means of publishing content are a few examples of how libraries may stake their willingness to extend their capabilities in managing shared resources beyond those of an information provider to an information creator.
Join NISO in its first Virtual Conference as we explore this theme with a range of experts – we aim to interact with the audience as much as possible to extend the conversation with those who are attending.
CONSER RDA Core Elements for Serials
Date: February 13, 2013
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.
Description: This session will provide an overview of the serials cataloging and training tools being developed for the implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA). CONSER, the cooperative serials cataloging component of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has defined CONSER RDA core elements for serials and posted them at http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/conser/issues/index.html on the CONSER website. The overview is intended for any catalogers interested in serials cataloging and RDA implementation. The session is general in nature and not intended as CONSER Program training.
This session is part of a two-webinar series that includes Programmatic Changes to the LC/NACO Authority File for RDA on May 8.
Who should attend? Any catalogers interested in serials cataloging and RDA implementation
Presenter: Les Hawkins is Coordinator of CONSER, the Cooperative Serials Program of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC). As part of his duties in the Cooperative and Instructional Program Division at Library of Congress (LC), Les has been involved in RDA course development and instruction of Library of Congress staff members. During 2012-2013, he worked with CONSER members on a CONSER RDA core element set and the development of “bridge” training for serials catalogers transitioning from AACR2 to RDA.
