“The River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester seeks an … Data Librarian to design and establish a new research data support service at a leading research university. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services, the Data Librarian plays a key role in developing services and policies to collect, manage, curate, provide access to, and assist in the analysis of data. The Data Librarian will work collaboratively with faculty, graduate students, reference librarians, metadata librarians, and information technology staff to develop and implement a campus-wide data program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a comprehensive data management program to serve the needs of faculty and students from the School of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering and the Simon School of Business.
  • Work in collaboration with subject librarians to build liaisons with faculty, students, and staff in the collection, curation, and reuse of data.
  • Provide support in the discovery, use, and management of locally created and externally available data.
  • Develop best practices for data management, stewardship, and sustainable programs.
  • Provide support for researchers and students on collection, storage, preservation, and use of data, including meeting funding agency data management requirements.
  • Collaborate with subject librarians to develop sustainable and domain-appropriate data services in support of research across the River Campus.
  • Participate in research support and instruction for academic departments and collaborate with subject librarians.
  • Monitor new data and metadata requirements, practices, and standards adopted by government agencies and domain groups.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an… individual for the role of Research and Design Services Librarian. Working with a team of librarians at the Undergraduate Library (http://www.lib.unc.edu/house/), this individual will help shape the provision of research and technology services geared towards the undergraduate population. The successful candidate will develop public services for the Reference Desk and Design Lab, explore technologies supporting undergraduate education, and participate in instruction and outreach initiatives.

The Research and Design Services Librarian will lead the day to day activities of Reference Desk and Design Lab (a multi-media lab supporting scanning services and the creation of digital design projects), deliver instruction on design software and research methods, work closely with colleagues to evaluate current services, and recommend, design, and implement user-centered research and technology services.  The successful candidate will contribute to the development of online instructional materials, such as tutorials, course guides, and other instructional tools. The individual in this position will actively supervise and mentor graduate student employees from the School of Information and Library Science and participate in collection development activities for the Undergraduate Library.

This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
