EBSCO, Elsevier agreement allows mutual customers to access Scopus within EBSCO Discovery Service
“According to KnowledgeSPEAK “electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO), US, and STM publisher Elsevier have announced an agreement to allow mutual customers to access Scopus within EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Scopus is a bibliographic, abstract and citation database provided by Elsevier.
The agreement enables researchers at institutions that subscribe to both Scopus and EDS to conduct their search
via the single search box of EBSCO Discovery Service, access the extensive content in Scopus within the results and be able to link to the full record. This agreement will benefit mutual customers by providing increased exposure to scientific, technical, medical, and social sciences content…”
Important Statistical Abstract Update
Compilation of the new 2013 edition of the ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States is near completion. “The book should have around 1420 tables—which is actually a few more than last year’s edition! There will be only 17 copyright tables from last year’s edition not included, and 6 of those 17 tables are being replaced with Federal data. Altogether, rights have been secured to 93% of the copyright tables from last year’s edition…”
California Digital Library and Partners Launch DataUp
Information Today reports that “the University of California’s Digital Library (CDL) and its partners launched DataUp, a free data management tool. Researchers struggling to meet new data management requirements from funders, journals, and their own institutions can now use the DataUp Web application and a Microsoft Excel add-in to document and archive their tabular data… CDL partnered with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Microsoft Research Connections, and DataONE to create the DataUp tool, which is free to use and creates a direct link between researchers and data repositories. CDL also announced that the DataUp project has been contributed to the Outercurve Foundation’s Research Accelerator Gallery…”
New SPEC Kit From ARL: Library Contribution to Accreditation
INFOdocket notes that ARL has released “SPEC Kit #330: Library Contribution to Accreditation. “This SPEC Kit explores the scope of accreditation standards,the data provided by research libraries to meet the requirements of accrediting bodies, and which library staff participate in preparing reports and site visits. The survey results may help libraries identify and understand what standards exist, and how their contributions lead to successful accreditation and reaccreditation for their parent institutions…” ( The complete description can be found at the ARL Web Site.)
WK Health and Joanna Briggs Institute expand partnership to provide full suite of JBI resources on OvidSP
KnowledgeSPEAK also reports that “healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced an expanded partnership with the University of Adelaide’s Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). JBI is an international producer of evidence-based practice (EBP) resources and tools.
Ovid, part of WK Health, will be the exclusive channel for JBI’s complete EBP solution on its OvidSP and Nursing@Ovid research platforms. These platforms are used by more than 12,500 institutions globally.”
OCLC to expand Geek the Library campaign to more libraries with increased support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
“Geek the Library, OCLC’s community awareness campaign designed to highlight the value of public libraries, has received $1,924,883 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to extend participation in the program to 1,000 additional libraries through June 2015. The funding allows increased emphasis on library staff planning and implementation of the program, and will help staff build on the knowledge and skills they need to be effective advocates for libraries in their communities.”
Serials Solutions announces second development deployment for Intota Library Management Solution
Library Technology Guides reports that “Serials Solutions announced its six Development Partners are actively using and providing feedback on the second iteration of Intota, a web-scale collection management solution for academic and special libraries. Integrated with a newly structured knowledgebase, this code drop represents another milestone toward interoperability with other information systems and unified, intelligent workflows…”
Auto-Graphics Partners with FastPencil to Power Libraries with Book Publishing Capabilities
3M Cloud Library eReading App now available through Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Apps storefront
LibraryTechnology Guides also reports that “the 3M Cloud Library App is now available in Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Apps store, making it easier for owners of NOOK tablets to borrow eBooks from local libraries. Anyone with a NOOK HD, NOOK HD+, NOOK Tablet or NOOK Color can download the 3M Cloud Library App directly from the NOOK Apps storefront, and then transfer digital content wirelessly to their device without having to physically connect to a computer.
“The 3M Cloud Library App offers NOOK users seamless access to lendable eBooks through their local library,” said Tom Mercer, 3M Library Systems Digital Business Development Leader. “We’re excited to be once again improving the eBook experience for even more library users…”
