Jeff Deneen
Title: Director of Sales and Marketing
Organization: MetaPress
Email: jeffdeneen@metapress.com
Website: www.metapress.com
Born and Lived: I came into the world in Hagerstown, MD and spent the first four years of my life there. My father was employed as a Industrial Engineer in the aerospace industry and provide our family with many opportunities to change location. I was able to split my formative years between Fort Worth, TX and Sacramento, CA.
Professional Career and Activities:I was graduated from Texas Tech University and attended graduate school at Texas Woman’s University with a Ph.D. in Sociology with a focus in Social Theory and Deviance. Academic roles were scarce so I started my career in the private sector. I worked at Nortel for more than 20 years in a variety of marketing and research roles. I established the Global Customer Value Management measurement system and the Global Brand Tracking study while at Nortel. I moved to Birmingham, AL when my wife received a career opportunity there. I joined MetaPress in August as the Director of Sales and Marketing
Family: Terri and I have been married for more than 17 years and enjoy the company of our 16 year old daughter, a sophomore in High School, and our 10 year old son who is in 4th grade. We also look after my 90 year old parents. They are living in a local nursing home and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
In My Spare Time: In addition to Family, I recently started riding again with a target to doing a half century in 2013.
Favorite Books: Too Many to name. I am currently reading Collapse by Jared Diamond. The current biography I’ve read is Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I always like a good book and the smell of ink or the glow of a screen.
Pet Peeves: People who don’t take the opportunity to fix even the small things.
Philosophy: Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Live it like it was the last.
Most Memorable Career Achievement: There is nothing like the signature page of a dissertation.
Goal I Hope to Achieve Five Years from Now: Enabling anyone to read anything anywhere anytime they want to.
