ebrary Announces New Strategic Approach to E-book Acquisition  

ebrary has “a strategic new approach to e-book acquisition based on three steps: Transition, Diversify and Streamline™. Libraries that transition a greater percentage of their budgets from print to electronic, diversify acquisition models, and streamline ordering processes will see a much greater and faster return on their e-book investments… Diversification is a key component of ebrary’s approach to strategic e-book acquisition. It is not one size fits all. Similar to a stock portfolio, libraries that diversify their acquisition models can see a better return on their investment.”

CIPE Italian University Consortium to add 11 million records to WorldCat

“OCLC and the CIPE consortium, which comprises 11 university libraries in northern and central Italy, have signed an agreement to load CIPE library records into WorldCat to increase visibility of these Italian collections, and enrich the world’s largest resource for discovery of library materials… The agreement to load the records of these leading public Italian universities will make them discoverable through WorldCat.org on the Web. ”We have always been aware of the many benefits that WorldCat visibility can give us, and they are in line with our strategy of international cooperation,” said Laura Tallandini, CIPE President and President of the Padua University Library System. “Now, we can have our records batchloaded into WorldCat and still continue to use our current cataloguing system.”"

Brill will digitize Art Sales Catalogues from the Frick Art Reference Library in New York

“Brill and the Frick Collection have signed an agreement to digitize c. 3,300 historical art sales catalogues from the Frick Art Reference Library for Brill’s publication Art Sales Catalogues 1600-1900 Online (ASCO).

The Frick Art Reference Library is one of the largest repositories of auction catalogs and provenance information in North America. Its collection consists of more than 90,000 catalogs, with an annual acquisitions rate of 1,500. Catalogues from more than 1,000 auction houses in Europe, Australia, and the Americas, ranging in date from the eighteenth century to the present, are represented in the collection…”

ACRL College Libraries Section calls for CLIPP  Proposals

“The ACRL College Libraries Section (CLS) is seeking proposals for CLIPP: College Library Information on Policy and Practice, a reconceptualization of ACRL’s CLIPNotes publication series. Any librarian at a college or small university can submit a publication proposal to the CLIPP committee. OCLC opens new data center in Sydney, Australia

“OCLC is now operating a new data center in Sydney, Australia, to support OCLC WorldShare Management Services for members in Australia and New Zealand. The Sydney center becomes the fourth data center in OCLC’s global network. OCLC opened a data center in the United Kingdom in December and maintains its two primary operations data centers in the United States.”

Agate Publishing and Chicago Tribune Enter New Ebook Partnership

Agate Publishing Inc…. has entered into a partnership with the Chicago Tribune to produce ebooks created from Chicago Tribune-owned content. The ebooks will appear as part of Agate’s new imprint, Agate Digital, which is devoted solely to publishing stand-alone ebook titles… Agate has produced ebook editions simultaneously with all its printed books since 2009. The Agate Digital venture represents a new foray into purely digital publishing.”
