OCLC and Elsevier… have signed an agreement forming a partnership that “makes it possible for researchers and students to search the full text of content from SciVerse ScienceDirect through WorldCat Local… Authenticated users from subscribing libraries can then access the full text of these journals and e-books. The new full-text searching feature is in addition to indexing and abstracts from Elsevier already available through WorldCat Local.”
Wall Street Journal Launches Video Channel for YouTube
“The Wall Street Journal today launched a dedicated channel for YouTube, featuring on-demand content from the Journal’s growing stable of video programming. In conjunction with the launch, the channel will showcase “Off Duty,” a daily lifestyle show debuting today based on the eponymous section of WSJ Weekend, the Journal’s Saturday paper.”
AAP eBook Sales Nudge Back Up In November, As Children’s Hardcovers Shine
“eBook sales as reported by a small but growing group of publishers to the AAP remained lower than their peaks earlier in the year in November, at $77.3 million up modestly from October’s reported $72.8 million. Overall, ebooks comprised 16 percent of trade sales, compared to 12.6 percent in October…”
Gov.uk launches one UK government website to rule them all
A new unified website for online public services from the UK government went live for testing yesterday. “A new single government domain, at www.gov.uk, will replace Directgov, the portal which launched in 2004, before extending across Whitehall departments’ sites in the coming weeks.”
A major new knowledge hub launched for the orthopaedic community
“The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery, publishers of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (British Volume) announce the launch of Bone & Joint (www.boneandjoint.org.uk)– a major new online resource for the orthopaedic and related communities. Developed in partnership with HighWire Press, this new web portal will offer orthopaedic surgeons and researchers access to a range of specialist tools, services and content, designed to support their education and career progression.”
RFID Company Bibliotheca Group Acquires Trion AG
Bibliotheca Group, the international library radio-frequency identification (RFID) equipment manufacturer headquartered in Switzerland, today announced the acquisition of Zurich-based Trion AG, a leading supplier of automated materials handling systems for libraries in Europe and the Middle East. Terms were not disclosed.
