‘Choice’ Names Its Top 25 Academic Books for 2011

“Editors at Choice, … have named their top 25 academic titles for the year, along with a top 10 of Web sites…Choice’s full “Outstanding Academic Titles, 2011″ list comprises 629 titles across 54 disciplines and appears in the magazine’s January 2012 issue. Non-subscribers can register for a free online trial to check it out.”

OverDrive Posts Public Comment Apparently in Response to Friday’s Librarian in Black Post

Karen Estrovich, manager of collection development for OverDrive has responded to concerns recently expressed by Sarah Houghton in her blog Librarian in Black as well as Gary Price at INFOdocket.  In her post Ensuring access to the largest eBook catalog for libraries, Ms Estrovich answers some specific questions but seems to raise more.

NISO Issues COUNTER-SUSHI Implementation Profile for Comment

“The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announces the availability of NISO SUSHI Protocol: COUNTER-SUSHI Implementation Profile (NISO RP-14-201X) for a public comment period ending on January 20, 2012. This Recommended Practice provides a practical implementation structure to be used in the creation of reports and services related to harvesting of COUNTER Release 4 reports using the NISO SUSHI Protocol.”

Cambridge UP to Preserve Cambridge Books Online with Portico

“Portico is pleased to announce that Cambridge University Press will preserve its Cambridge Books Online content with Portico. Through this agreement, Cambridge extends its relationship with Portico, which began in 2006 with the publisher’s commitment to deposit its entire list of e-journals in the Portico archive.”

Marquis Who’s Who Content Coming to EBSCO Discovery Service

Marquis Who’s Who content will soon be available via EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Publishing for mutual customers. The new agreement will add metadata from the Marquis Who’s Who database into the Base Index of EDS and provide seamless access and full-text searching for mutual customers, enabling them to search Marquis Who’s Who collection of more than 1.4 million biographies alongside their own library’s collection.
