The Columbia Museum of Art is the premier international art museum in South Carolina with a commitment to exhibiting art from around the world. The collection ranges from antiquity to the present day with a focus on European, American, modern and contemporary, and Asian art. A large gift from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation formed the nucleus of an important permanent collection of more than 6,000 objects of fine and decorative arts across a broad range of centuries and media. Reports To: Executive Director
Purpose: Directs all aspects of the museum’s curatorial efforts, including overseeing the fine and decorative arts collection, special exhibitions, research and conservation.
Responsibilities: The individual will be responsible for developing the depth and quality of the permanent collection, and supervising collections management and conservation, including acquisition, documentation, and interpretation. Directs a dynamic and diverse exhibition program that advances the museum’s mission, vision, and strategic direction, including exhibition planning, organization, design, and installation. Authors material for museum publications. Manages all administrative aspects of the curatorial department in terms of budget, personnel matters, contracts, records, and the like.
