IOP Publishing Announces Appointmen​t of New Commercial Director

IOP Publishing (IOP), one of the world’s leading publishers in physics and related sciences, has announced today the appointment of Dr Olaf Ernst as the company’s new commercial director. Reporting to Steven Hall, managing director of IOP Publishing, Dr Ernst will take responsibility for the sales, marketing business development, electronic product management and innovation activity of the company, whose portfolio includes the Journal of Physics Series, New Journal of Physics and Physics World.

Dr Ernst will be based in IOP’s Bristol head office and will join the business on 4 April 2011. Dr Ernst brings with him a wealth of industry experience, vision, business development, and sales and marketing skills with which to lead IOP’s global commercial operations.

Commenting on Dr Ernst’s appointment, Steven Hall said ‘We are delighted to welcome Olaf to the team at IOP and believe his insight, knowledge and experience will prove invaluable to the company. Olaf will play a key role in ensuring that we continue to innovate and excel in the services we provide to researchers, librarians and publishing partners’.

Dr Ernst’s most recent role was that of President of eProduct Management and Innovation at Springer where he served on the Executive Management Board, being responsible for the management of the company’s portfolio of electronic products, platforms and services. In an earlier role at Springer he led its pioneering eBooks programme, both in the development of the product itself and in its innovative business model. Before joining Springer he worked for Bertelsmann in business development and marketing and he has extensive management experience in marketing, sales and product development.
