ATG’s Article of the Week
2/22/2011

Review article “Calling International Rescue: Knowledge Lost in Literature and Data Landslide!” by Teresa K. Attwood, Douglas B. Kell, Phillip M. McDermott, James Marsh, Steve R. Pettifer and David Thorne. Biochemical Journal (2009), 424:317-333. doi:10.1042/BJ20091474

A reprint of this article was buried on my desk at home and I just unearthed it. The authors, all scientists, point out, “there is so much information available that we simply no longer know what we know, and finding what we want is hard – too hard.” The authors describe initiatives to provide new ways of interacting with the literature. This is what we librarians are trying to facilitate. Read Patrick Carr’s new MultiGrain post today about “Web-Scale Discovery in Context” as well. We definitely live in interesting times.
