Announcing Wiley Online Library – launching July 2010

Wiley announced on Tuesday that Wiley Online Library will launch on Saturday, July 24th 2010.

From a press release issued by Wiley on April 27, 2010:

Wiley Online Library will host the world’s broadest and deepest multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science and the humanities. Built on the latest technology and designed with extensive input from scholars around the world, Wiley Online Library will deliver seamless integrated access to over 4 million articles from 1500 journals, 8000 books, and hundreds of reference works, laboratory protocols and databases from John Wiley & Sons and key imprints including Wiley-Blackwell, Wiley-VCH and Jossey-Bass.

Featuring a clean and simple interface, this new online service will combine intuitive navigation, enhanced discoverability, expanded functionalities and a range of personalization options.

Explore an Intuitive New Interface

Developed in consultation with researchers, students, authors, society partners and library customers from around the world, Wiley Online Library’s brand new user interface delivers intuitive navigation for all users. Easily discover, read, download, and cite current journal and book content, EarlyView articles, backfiles, related material, and supporting data. Access Icons will clearly identify the content available to you through institutional licenses, society membership, author-funded OnlineOpen articles and as freely available content. Enlarge images within articles and expand citations to view the full reference with links.

Easily Discover Relevant Content

Comprehensive search engine optimization ensures easy discoverability of content, delivering relevant and immediate results to users. View content organized by subject category with books, journals, reference works and databases cross-searchable by subject. Easily find related articles, and follow research back and forth with reference linking and dynamically updated citing article links.

Stay Up-to-Date with Multiple Alerting Options

Sign up for email alerts and RSS feeds to stay up-to-date with the latest published research in your field. Receive journal tables of contents alerts, EarlyView and AcceptedArticle alerts, search alerts and e-newsletters and updates in your selected subject areas.

Clearly Identify Products and Brands

With the journal or book title as the prominent brand at all levels, including article and chapter level, users can easily identify their favorite products regardless of how they arrived on the site. Journal and society communities can share news, information and events on specially customized journal home pages. Library patrons will immediately recognize their library as providers of the service through institutional branding throughout the site.

More Value for Library Users and Librarians

Wiley Online Library will provide new opportunities for libraries to increase the visibility of their licensed content and drive users to it within and outside library catalogs. Use the new Z39.50 compatibility to support federated searching of all the site’s content, generate stable links using the OpenURL standard, and download enhanced MARC records into your catalog. Federated access management services such as Shibboleth as well as Athens are supported. Download usage reports compliant with the latest Release 3 of the COUNTER Code of Practice for Journals and Databases with its SUSHI protocol, as well as for Books and Reference Works. Customer licenses will be automatically transferred to Wiley Online Library and we are working with library link resolvers to ensure links redirect.

Benefit from Continuous Development

Wiley Online Library is built on a new underlying architecture based on the very latest web technology. The new structure will support the ongoing development of the service, the addition of new features and functionality, and new ways to present scholarly and reference material, into the future. A regular schedule of updates and new features will follow the launch of the new website.

Supporting the Launch of Wiley Online Library

Customers and researchers will receive ongoing information and support up to, during, and following the July 24th launch of Wiley Online Library. Wiley Online Library will completely replace the Wiley InterScience website and all content and licenses will be transferred to the new site to enable seamless access for users and subscribers.
